چکیده

Distributed antenna systems (DAS) are known to improve coverage and performance of wireless communicat ions in indoor environments. In the present paper, we propose a method to determine the position of distributed antennas that optimizes the network capacity for a given deployment scenario. We also consider power consumption measurements of commercially-available W i-Fi access points and dongles, in order to quantify the energy efficiency of a DAS using Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) technologies. Our results show that there exists an optimal number of distributed antennas for a given topology of the indoor environment.

Cognitive Radio Over Fibre: Potential advantages for spectrum management

Radio over fibre (RoF) techniques [1] have been researched from many years and although there are numerous deployments world-wide, the technology is still to have a major impact on mainstream wireless and cellular networks [2]. To date the offerings of the major vendors such as Andrew, ADC and Zinwave, have focused on what are essentially distributed antenna systems. However, as this paper will...

Modélisation énergétique de réseaux à antennes distribuées pour les communications sans-fil indoor. (Energy Characterisation of Distributed Antenna Systems for Indoor Wireless Communications)

The increasing number of mobile terminals in home and in-building networks for indoor environments including offices, train stations and airports entails demanding bit-rate requirements with unprecedented increase in energy consumption. Considering the energy required per user terminal to access the Internet, more than half of the total energy used from the core network to the end user terminal...

Impact of Radio-over-fiber Links on the Wireless Access Protocols

For the sake of supporting the current and emerging wireless systems in a radio-over-fiber distribution network, the first analysis needed is an evaluation of the wireless system characteristics in order to find out which requirements shall be complied with for guaranteeing the wireless system functionality and operation. In addition to the generation and transport of the microwave signals from...
